Government Youth Strategies
The Victorian Government has released a number of strategic and policy frameworks relating to young people, as well as report cards monitoring progress against goals At a federal level, the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs has developed a set of guiding principles to inform youth participation practices at all levels of government. Taking Young People Seriously series
The Office for Youth has partnered with the Youth Affairs Council of Victoria to develop a series of publications on different aspects of youth participation. These provide practical tools to help young people and the organisations working with them to develop effective models for youth participation. Read the Taking Young People Seriously handbooks.
Working with refugee young people
The Victorian Settlement Planning Committee, made up of community organisations and federal, state and local government, developed a Good Practice Principles Guide for Working with Refugee Young People to assist services working with young refugees.
Local Government Youth Charter
The Office for Youth, in partnership with the Municipal Association of Victoria and RMIT University to produce two documents to help guide local governments’ response to opportunities for youth engagement. Learn more about youth and local government.
The Guide to Effective Practice for Mentoring Young People
The Guide to Effective Practice for Mentoring Young People (PDF 2mb) is a practical resource and shared knowledge base designed to improve the quality of Victoria’s mentoring programs. The Guide details what practitioners and research tell us about the effective features of mentoring programs for young people including good practice principles, program management and checklists and resources.
