Tools for Better Mentoring

This component supports mentoring for young Victorians through the development of resources, guidelines and good practice tools available for use by all organisations involved in mentoring activities.

The MCBI is delivered through three key components:
1. Building Mentoring
2. Tools for Better Mentoring
3. Community Capacity Building

A Guide to Engaging Business for Youth Mentoring Organisations

A key objective of the Victorian Government’s Leading the Way Strategic Framework is to increase participation across all community sectors in support of mentoring. This includes giving business and philanthropic organisations greater opportunity to provide financial and in-kind support to mentoring programs.

For the long term success of mentoring, integrated and collaborative partnerships are necessary which is why the Victorian Government is working in partnership with business, schools, philanthropy and across all levels of government to improve young people’s access to quality mentoring programs.

A Guide to Engaging Business for Youth Mentoring Organisations (2008) was written by Whitelion on behalf of the Victorian Government. It has been developed in partnership with the Victorian Youth Mentoring Alliance, youth mentoring organisations and business.

A Guide to Effective Practice for Mentoring Young People

In consultation with stakeholders, the Office for Youth has produced A Guide to Effective Practice for Mentoring Young People (2006). This publication is aimed at community organisations establishing, running, or wishing to improve the effectiveness of their mentoring programs. It is a practical resource that details what practitioners and research tell us about the effective features of mentoring programs for young people including good practice principles, program management and checklists and resources.

A Guide to Supporting Effective Programs for Mentoring Young People

A Guide to Supporting Effective Programs for Mentoring Young People (2007) has been produced as a practical resource for those involved in funding and supporting mentoring programs for young people.

This Guide is a companion document to A Guide to Effective Mentoring for Young People (2006) which was produced to assist mentoring practitioners to develop and implement mentoring programs based on good practice. The Guide also covers some common knowledge and practical guidance on the development of quality mentoring programs but has a particular focus on program development and management undertaken by funding bodies and other organisations supporting formal mentoring programs.
