Positive Body Image Grants 2009
Minister for Youth Affairs James Merlino announced 53 successful community-based projects (Word 41 kb) to receive up to $5000 grants under the ‘Go for your life’ Positive Body Image Small Grants Program. Projects funded through the grants for 2009 will provide activities that stimulate young people to build awareness of positive body image within their community.
Deaf Sport and Recreation Victoria attended the Ministers announcement as one of the successful recipients for 2009, and brought along with them some hearing impaired young people from the Victorian College for the Deaf to share in the rock-climbing fun with the Minister before the formal announcements were made.

Advance Gets Advanced into 2009
The Office for Youth will provide further funding for the Advance program to 418 Victorian Government secondary schools this year.
Announced by Premier John Brumby and the Minister for Youth Affairs, James Merlino, at Scoresby Secondary College, participating schools will receive up to $10,000 to deliver the program.
Before the official announcement was made, Mr Brumby and Mr Merlino participated in a friendly game of soccer with the Advance students from Scoresby Secondary College and residents from Nadrasca, a home for the intellectually handicapped. Visit the Advance page for more information on the program.

Minister for the Arts Lynne Kosky and Minister for Youth Affairs James Merlino launched a new $7.1 million program Victoria Rocks which is a new contemporary music grants program for young people. Victoria Rocks is a Victorian Government initiative through Arts Victoria, the Office for Youth and Tourism Victoria. Further information on Victoria Rocks
Future Directions: An action agenda for young people
The Victorian Government’s youth agenda, Future Directions, reflects the broad range of activity going on across government for young Victorians aged 12 to 25. It brings together five specific desired outcomes that the community, young people and their families have endorsed as priorities. The Government’s role is to provide options and services for young people, as well as ensuring their rights are respected and they have real opportunities to build meaningful careers and lives.
