Positive Body Image Grants 2010: Open for Applications


'Go for your life' Positive Body Image Small Grants - 2010 are now open until 22 March 2010.

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for community-based activities that promote positive body image messages and healthy lifestyle choices and build self esteem. The 2010 Grants Guidelines can be found at www.grants.dpcd.vic.gov.au.

Featured Profile: Advance in Lake Bolac College


In early 2009, the Advance program at Lake Bolac College, in memory of a highly respected CFA volunteer Leigh Poynton, initiated the inaugural Leigh Poynton Memorial Trophy for the 'Most Promising Firefighter' for an ‘Advance student who has demonstrated leadership, teamwork and competence in theory'. The trophy was won by Year 10 student Hannah McIntyre. More Advance in Action.

Introducing Micah Scott, 2010 National Youth Week Victorian Young Member


The Office for Youth is please to announce that Micah Scott is National Youth Week Young Member for 2010. Across Australia each state and territory representative promotes youth participation at a local and state level and encourages a diverse range of young people to get involved in their local communities and celebrate their achievements during National Youth Week 10-18 April.

Victorian website for people with a disability


The Victorian Government has announced the new online community for and by people with a disability – DiVine. DiVine aims to inform, engage and entertain. The site encourages participation and a sense of belonging. It is a safe space where people with a disability can share their passion and unique perspective with thousands of other Victorians. The site has stories about new technology, healthy living, online dating, accessible venues and travel.

Welcome New Rovers


Youthcentral, the Victorian Government's website for young Victorians, has newly appointed another set of Roving Reporters to the dynamic team.
The Roving Reporters ensure that the content on the website is predominately written by young people, with reviews, discussion pieces and topical pieces on just about everything that matters to them.
The position reiterates that youth participation is a key foundation of youthcentral. Over 250 young people have been Roving Reporters for the site since its inception, with many other young people contributing opinions and articles. Visit the Roving Reporter profiles at youthcentral.

Future Directions: An action agenda for young people


The Victorian Government’s youth agenda, Future Directions, reflects the broad range of activity going on across government for young Victorians aged 12 to 25. It brings together five specific desired outcomes that the community, young people and their families have endorsed as priorities. The Government’s role is to provide options and services for young people, as well as ensuring their rights are respected and they have real opportunities to build meaningful careers and lives.
