New Arrivals Survival Guide
The New Arrivals Survival Guide has been designed by the Western Young Peoples Independent Network (WYPIN) supported by the Office for Youth.The Guide has been produced by young people and funded by the Multicultural Multifaith Youth Network, the Victorian Multicultural Commission and the Office for Youth.
The Guide is a handbook full of tips, advice and information to assist in the first weeks of arriving in Victoria.
Positive Body Image Survey
Over National Youth Week and at the completion of L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival 2010, the Office for Youth ran a survey on youthcentral to get a better understanding about young people, body image and what young people feel the influence of the media, fashion and advertising industries. 436 young people completed the survey, read about the findings and what’s next on youthcentral.
Youth Foundations Victoria land in Flemington and Moonee Valley
“Youth Foundations Victoria provides a unique opportunity for the entire community to support young people to make decisions about youth-led activities in their community,” said Youth Affairs Minister James Merlino MP with local young people to announce that the area is the next location for the Youth Foundations Victoria (YFV) initiative. Minister Merlino was joined Member for Melbourne Bronwyn Pike at the Farnham Street Neighbourhood Learning Centre. More information on Youth Foundations Victoria.
Victorian website for people with a disability
The Victorian Government has announced the new online community for and by people with a disability – DiVine. DiVine aims to inform, engage and entertain. The site encourages participation and a sense of belonging. It is a safe space where people with a disability can share their passion and unique perspective with thousands of other Victorians. The site has stories about new technology, healthy living, online dating, accessible venues and travel.
Future Directions: An action agenda for young people
The Victorian Government’s youth agenda, Future Directions, reflects the broad range of activity going on across government for young Victorians aged 12 to 25. It brings together five specific desired outcomes that the community, young people and their families have endorsed as priorities. The Government’s role is to provide options and services for young people, as well as ensuring their rights are respected and they have real opportunities to build meaningful careers and lives.
